Thank you for your interest in Thornhill Primary School. Whether you have child who will soon be starting school or you are moving to Southampton, we are delighted to tell you more about our setting.
Why choose Thornhill Primary School for your child?
We have fantastic staff, quality resources, extensive grounds and a wonderful adventure playground! Children have the chance to take part in a wide array of experiences through educational trips and a wide range of visitors to our school. Our partnership with parents is highly valued and we provide a variety of opportunities where parents can become involved in their child’s education.
Visiting Our School
If you would like to arrange a tour of the school as a prospective parent or carer then please contact the school office to arrange this.
If you are looking for a school place mid-year please contact the school office to discuss this.
In-Year Admissions
If you would like your child to start the school at any other time than 'Year R' you need to go to the Southampton Local Authority website. Here you will need to complete an online form. Admissions will then notify the school and next steps will be outlined.
To read more about our admissions process, download our Admission Policy.
What if I am unhappy with the school place offered?
You will be given reasons why a place could not be allocated at your chosen schools. Your child will be automatically added to the waiting list of your higher ranked school(s) where your application has been unsuccessful.
When a place becomes available, it will be offered to the child who is at the top of the list at that time. The waiting list is ordered in accordance with each school’s admissions policy.
You also have the right to make a formal appeal to an Independent Appeal Panel. The decision of the Independent Appeal Panel is final and binding on both the admission authority and the applicant. The decision letter will also include details of how to appeal.
Please see the Primary Appeals Timetable for information on Primary School Places, year R and year 3 appeals for 2026/2027.
